Terms of use
The rules for using Toolbox Money, in plain English. Last updated 29 October 2026.
Who runs the site
Toolbox Money is run by Stephen Evans, a sole trader, at 11 Broadstone Crescent, Crowborough, East Sussex, TN6 2YL. Email [email protected] is the quickest way to reach us. By using the site you agree to these terms.
Information, not advice
Our guides explain the general rules on tax and money admin for self-employed people in the UK. They aren't tax, financial, legal or insurance advice, and they don't take your own circumstances into account. Before you make a decision that matters, check it with an accountant or a regulated adviser.
How accurate it is
We check every rate, threshold and date against HMRC and GOV.UK, and each page shows when we last checked and links to its sources. Rules change and mistakes happen, so check GOV.UK before you act on anything, and tell us at [email protected] if you find an error.
Calculators give estimates
The calculators work from the figures you enter and the rates shown on the page. They can't know everything about your situation, so the results are estimates. The bill HMRC sends you is the one that counts.
Reminder emails
Our reminders are free and we do our best to send them on time, but emails can be delayed, filtered as spam or fail to arrive. Don't rely on them as your only reminder of a deadline. We may change or stop the service; if we do, we'll tell people who've signed up.
Links to other companies
We link to other companies' websites and products. Some of those links are ads that earn us a fee; how we make money lists which ones. We don't control those sites. If you buy from one, your agreement is with that company, on its terms and at its current price, which may differ from the price we last checked.
Using the site
You're welcome to link to any page and to quote short passages with a credit. Please don't copy whole pages, misuse the forms, or try to get round the site's security. The words, tools and design are ours; figures from GOV.UK are used under the Open Government Licence.
Our liability
As far as the law allows, we aren't responsible for loss caused by relying on the site, including tax, penalties or interest you have to pay. This section doesn't limit our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn't let us limit. If you use the site as a consumer, nothing here affects your legal rights.
How we handle your data
That's in our privacy notice.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed.
The law that applies
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes go to the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring a claim in your local courts.
