About Toolbox Money

Toolbox Money is a small, independent site about the money side of working in a trade: tax, Making Tax Digital, pricing, paperwork and the software and accounts that go with them.

Why it exists

Most tax guides are written for office workers or for accountants. Tradespeople get the same rules with none of the detail that matters to them: materials counting towards turnover, CIS deductions, a van that's also the family car, a week that's never five billable days. We write for that.

Every figure comes from HMRC or GOV.UK, is stored in one place and is checked each tax year, so a calculator and a guide can never disagree.

Who runs it

Stephen Evans edits Toolbox Money. Stephen also runs Costwise, an independent guide to what home improvements cost in the UK, and has been quoted on building costs by Homebuilding & Renovating, Ideal Home and Realtor.com.
